Biodiversity and nature conservation
The Foundation supports the identification, safeguarding and monitoring of ecologically valuable habitats, with particular attention to habitats for threatened species. It initiates, supports and implements projects that establish conservation reserves. Its conservation work combines field research, cooperation, environmental education and the long-term protection of suitable land and marine areas.
Areas supported by the Foundation include:
- Organising expeditions and research journeys to identify and document ecologically valuable areas, including transport, documentation and participant-safety resources.
- Working with governments and public authorities to secure suitable land and marine areas through dedicated or jointly owned project structures.
- Acquiring ecologically valuable land from private owners, directly or through dedicated entities, for long-term conservation.
- Cooperating with NGOs, public authorities and international organisations to monitor flora and fauna and support continuing protection in areas secured for conservation by the Foundation.
- Providing environmental education through school programmes, workshops and environmental learning institutions.
- Building local understanding and acceptance of conservation measures and protected-area rules.
- Conducting public information and awareness initiatives through print, digital media, social media and documentary film, together with advocacy and policy engagement.
- Organising specialist events, congresses, symposia and conferences focused on biodiversity and current global conservation challenges.
- Supporting scientific research and studies that identify and assess areas in need of protection and provide evidence for dialogue with governments and other partners.
